After spending some time at the California Trail museum this morning, we set out on a shorter drive (4.5 hrs) and arrived Reno around 4:30pm. There have been a few comments from the kids the past few days about being in the middle of nowhere (e.g. "How long will it be to drive to dinner? It's like 5 miles to the nearest house.") but it's also a treat to see landscape that involves mountains and beautiful horizons. I will note that we had two tumbleweeds blow right across the highway in front of us today, and then a third that rolled right into our car (Ben pulled out some branches from the grill later on).
Unfortunately, today wasn't a great day for #1, as he threw up 3 times in the car. Not sure if it was due to motion sickness (and taking Dramamine a little later?) or if it was a possible allergic reaction to a piece of toast he had in the morning... needless to say he had a pretty miserable drive. We visited a high school friend of mine this evening and enjoyed hanging out with her and her kids and swim in their heated pool. (Despite the sun being pretty hot and blazing, it did get pretty cool out later in the evening, so the heated pool was very nice!) Thankfully, all 3 kids were able to enjoy swimming and #1 eventually ate some dinner and kept it down. Kids are sleeping peacefully right now after a full evening, and since we have a little later checkout tomorrow (and a short drive to CA), we'll let them swim again in the morning before heading out after lunch. No additional photos for now, the kids have done great so far. I believe our license plate count is up to 41 (no Hawaii yet!)
